சுருங்கச் சொல்ல வேண்டுமானால், கர்த்தர் தாம் தெரிந்துகொண்ட ஜனமாகிய இஸ்ரவேலரோடுள்ள வாக்களித்த தமது திட்டங்களை நிறைவேற்றுவதில் தவறவில்லை. மாறாக ஒரு சிறிய இடைவெளி விட்டிருக்கிறார் அவ்வளவுதான். திருச்சபையும் புதிய ஏற்பாட்டு விசுவாசிகளாகிய நாமும் இப்பொழுது இருப்பது தேவனுடைய திட்டத்தின் ஒரு அடைப்புக்குள்ளாகும் (parenthesis).
தானியேல் 70 வார தரிசனம் சிறிது விளக்கமாகவே இதை விவரிக்கிறது. அதாவது 70 வாரங்களில் 69 வாரங்கள் முடிவடைந்து விட்டன அல்லது நிறைவேறி விட்டன. மீதம் இருப்பது கடைசி வாரம் மட்டும் தான். அந்த வாரம் துவங்கும் நாள் தான் 7 வருட உபத்திரவ காலத்தின் முதல் நாள்.
இந்த 70 வாரமும் 100% இஸ்ரவேலருக்கு மட்டுமே உரியதாகும் சபைக்கு அல்ல. கவனியுங்கள்: *"உன் ஜனத்தின்மேலும் (இஸ்ரவேலர்கள்) உன் பரிசுத்த நகரத்தின்மேலும் (எருசலேம்) எழுபதுவாரங்கள் செல்லும்படி குறிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது."* Seventy weeks are determined For *your people (Israel)* and for *your holy city (Jerusalem)* (தானியேல் 9:24).
ஆக, காரியங்கள் இப்படியிருக்க தாம் தெரிந்துகொண்ட யூத இனமே அறியாத அவர்களுக்கு இன்றும் மர்மமாய் இருக்கின்ற தேவனுடைய ஆச்சரியமான அற்புத திட்டம் தான் *"சபை"*. தேவன் சபையோடுள்ள காரியங்களை சபை எடுக்கப்படுதலோடு (with Rapture) முடித்துக் கொண்டபின், ஏற்கனவே pause செய்து வைத்திருக்கிற திட்டம் தொடரும். அதாவது இஸ்ரவேலரோடு தேவனுக்கு உண்டான திட்டம்.

யாக்கோபின் 12 புத்திரர்களுடைய பெயர்கள் ஏற்கனவே நமது குழுவில் பதிவிடப்பட்டுள்ளது, அவர்களுடைய நாமங்களை அல்லது பெயர்களை ஆதி. 35:23-26; யாத். 1:1–4; 1 நாளா. 2:1–2 ஆகிய வேதப்பகுதிகளில் காணலாம்.
தேவன் ஆபிரகாமிற்கு வாக்கு பண்ணின தேசத்தை (கானான்) 12 கோத்திரங்களும் யோசுவாவின் (காலேபும் உண்டு) தலைமையில் அடைந்த போது, லேவி கோத்திரத்திற்கு மட்டும் சுதந்திர வீதம் வழங்கப்படவில்லை (யோசுவா 13:14).
அவர்களுக்கு தேவனே சுதந்ரமானார். ஆகையால் அவர்கள் ஆசரிப்புக் கூடாரத்தில் (பின்னாட்களில் சாலமோனுக்குப் பிறகு ஆலயத்தில்) ஆசாரியர்களாகவும் லேவிக்கோத்திரத்திற்குட்பட்ட ஆரோனின் குடும்பம் பிரதான ஆசாரியர்களாவும் கர்த்தரை சேவித்தார்கள். இவர்களுக்கென்று மற்ற கோத்திரங்களைப் போல சுதந்திர வீதம் இல்லையென்கிற போதிலும், இவர்கள் வசிப்பதற்கென்று மற்ற கோத்திரங்களில் இருந்து பட்டணங்கள் வழங்கப்பட்டது.
பின்னாட்களில் யாக்கோபின் 12 புத்திரர்களுள் ஒருவனான யோசேப்பின் இரண்டு புத்திரர்கள் யாக்கோபினால் தத்தெடுக்கப்பட்டு அவர்களுக்கும் யாக்கோபு சுதந்திர வீதம் வஸ்கங்குகிறார். காரணம் யோசேப்பு இஸ்ரவேலரை அல்லது யாக்கோபின் குடும்பத்தை பஞ்சத்தில் இருந்து காப்பாற்றியதற்கான வெகுமதியாகும் (ஆதி. 47:11–12).
சில இடங்களில், எப்பிராயீம் யோசேப்பினுடைய கோத்திரத்தைக் குறிப்பிடுகிறது (எண்ணா. 1:32–33).

ஆனாலும் திரும்பி வந்தவர்களுக்கு சந்தோஷம் நீடித்திருக்கவில்லை. கிரேக்க சாம்ராஜ்யத்தில் முக்கியமான மாமன்னனாகிய அலெக்ஸ்சாண்டர் மரித்த பின் அவனுடைய நான்கு தளபதிகளும் இராஜ்ஜியத்தை நான்காக பங்கிட்டார்கள். அவற்றுள் ஒரு இராஜ்ஜியமாகிய சிரியாவினால் மீண்டும் யூதர்கள் பல நாசத்திற்குள்ளானார்கள்.
அதன்பிறகு கி.பி. 70 ல் மீண்டும் ரோமர்களால் சிதறடிக்கப்பட்டார்கள். இன்றுவரை இரண்டு இராஜ்ஜியங்களையும் சேர்த்து 12 கோத்திரங்களையும் அடையாளம் கண்டு கொள்வதில் மெய்யாகவே பெரும் சிரமம் தான்.

The case for symbolism is exegetically weak. The principal reason for the view is a predisposition to make the 144,000 into a group representative of the church with which no possible numerical connection exists. No justification can be found for understanding the simple statement of fact in v. 4 as a figure of speech. It is a definite number in contrast with the indefinite number of 7:9. *"If it is taken symbolically, no number in the book of Revelation can be taken literally."*

First, there is the “Lamb,” a figure representing Christ (cf. Jn. 1:29; Rev. 5:6).
Second, there is Mount Zion, a symbol of divine government (cf. Isa. 2:2-4).
Third, there is the numeral 144,000, suggestive of the heavenly complement of God’s people — no one will be missing who is supposed to be there.
Fourth, the saints are depicted as “virgins,” which descriptive emphasizes their purity (cf. 2 Cor. 11:2).
Again, though, it must be stressed that if one contends for a literal 144,000, if consistent, he should argue also that a literal Lamb was literally standing on literal Mount Zion with a group of literal men who had never been intimate with literal women, hence, were literal virgins!

Joseph and one of his two sons, Manasseh, are listed, but Ephraim, Joseph’s other son, is omitted. Thus if Dan were included, there would have been 13 tribes. The tribe omitted was usually Levi, from which the priesthood came. Inasmuch as it is normal to have only 12 and not 13 tribes, the omission of Dan is because one of the first tribes to go into idolatry (Jud. 18:30; 1 Kings 12:28-29).

Because of its unusual character, Revelation has been approached from a number of interpretive principles, some of which raise serious questions concerning its value as divine authoritative revelation.
*1. The allegorical or nonliteral approach*
This form of interpretation was offered by the Alexandrian school of theology in the third and fourth centuries. It regards the entire Bible as an extensive allegory to be interpreted in a nonliteral sense. The allegorical interpretation of the Bible was later restricted largely to prophecy about the Millennium by Augustine (354-430), who interpreted Revelation as a chronicle of the spiritual conflict between God and Satan being fulfilled in the present Church Age. A liberal variation of this in modern times considers Revelation simply as a symbolic presentation of the concept of God’s ultimate victory.
*2. The preterist approach*
A more respected approach is known as the preterist view which regards Revelation as a symbolic picture of early church conflicts which have been fulfilled. This view denies the future predictive quality of most of the Book of Revelation. In varying degrees this view combines the allegorical and symbolic interpretation with the concept that Revelation does not deal with specific future events. Still another variation of the preterist view regards Revelation as setting forth principles of divine dealings with man, without presenting specific events.
*3. The historical approach*
A popular view stemming from the Middle Ages is the historical approach which views Revelation as a symbolic picture of the total church history of the present Age between Christ’s first and second comings. This view was advanced by Luther, Isaac Newton, Elliott, and many expositors of the postmillennial school of interpretation and has attained respectability in recent centuries. Its principal problem is that seldom do two interpreters interpret a given passage as referring to the same event. Each interpreter tends to find its fulfillment in his generation. Many have combined the historical interpretation with aspects of other forms of interpretation in order to bring out a devotional or spiritual teaching from the book. The preceding methods of interpretation tend to deny a literal future Millennium and also literal future events in the Book of Revelation.
*4. The futuristic approach*
The futuristic approach has been adopted by conservative scholars, usually premillenarians, who state that chapters 4-22 deal with events that are yet future today. The content of Revelation 4-18 describes the last seven years preceding the second coming of Christ and particularly emphasizes the Great Tribulation, occurring in the last three and one-half years before His coming.
Objections to this view usually stem from theological positions opposed to premillennialism. The charge is often made that the Book of Revelation would not have been a comfort to early Christians or understood by them if it were largely futuristic. Adherents of the futuristic school of interpretation insist, on the contrary, that future events described in Revelation bring comfort and reassurance to Christians who in the nature of their faith regard their ultimate victory as future. The futuristic interpretation, however, is demanding of the expositor as it requires him to reduce to tangible prophetic events the symbolic presentations which characterize the book.

It is reasonable to conclude that this is the same group mentioned in 7:4-8, except that here they are in a later period of the Tribulation. Chronologically the vision anticipates the triumph of the 144,000 still intact at the time of Jesus Christ’s return from heaven to earth.
In contrast with many others who become martyrs, these people live through the period. But they are not the only ones to survive, as many Gentiles and Jews will turn to Christ in the end time and somehow escape martyrdom and be honored to welcome Christ at His return.

சுருங்கச் சொல்ல வேண்டுமானால், கர்த்தர் தாம் தெரிந்துகொண்ட ஜனமாகிய இஸ்ரவேலரோடுள்ள வாக்களித்த தமது திட்டங்களை நிறைவேற்றுவதில் தவறவில்லை. மாறாக ஒரு சிறிய இடைவெளி விட்டிருக்கிறார் அவ்வளவுதான். திருச்சபையும் புதிய ஏற்பாட்டு விசுவாசிகளாகிய நாமும் இப்பொழுது இருப்பது தேவனுடைய திட்டத்தின் ஒரு அடைப்புக்குள்ளாகும் (parenthesis).
தானியேல் 70 வார தரிசனம் சிறிது விளக்கமாகவே இதை விவரிக்கிறது. அதாவது 70 வாரங்களில் 69 வாரங்கள் முடிவடைந்து விட்டன அல்லது நிறைவேறி விட்டன. மீதம் இருப்பது கடைசி வாரம் மட்டும் தான். அந்த வாரம் துவங்கும் நாள் தான் 7 வருட உபத்திரவ காலத்தின் முதல் நாள்.

தேவன் ஆபிரகாமிற்கு வாக்கு பண்ணின தேசத்தை (கானான்) 12 கோத்திரங்களும் யோசுவாவின் (காலேபும் உண்டு) தலைமையில் அடைந்த போது, லேவி கோத்திரத்திற்கு மட்டும் சுதந்திர வீதம் வழங்கப்படவில்லை (யோசுவா 13:14).
அவர்களுக்கு தேவனே சுதந்ரமானார். ஆகையால் அவர்கள் ஆசரிப்புக் கூடாரத்தில் (பின்னாட்களில் சாலமோனுக்குப் பிறகு ஆலயத்தில்) ஆசாரியர்களாகவும் லேவிக்கோத்திரத்திற்குட்பட்ட ஆரோனின் குடும்பம் பிரதான ஆசாரியர்களாவும் கர்த்தரை சேவித்தார்கள். இவர்களுக்கென்று மற்ற கோத்திரங்களைப் போல சுதந்திர வீதம் இல்லையென்கிற போதிலும், இவர்கள் வசிப்பதற்கென்று மற்ற கோத்திரங்களில் இருந்து பட்டணங்கள் வழங்கப்பட்டது.
பின்னாட்களில் யாக்கோபின் 12 புத்திரர்களுள் ஒருவனான யோசேப்பின் இரண்டு புத்திரர்கள் யாக்கோபினால் தத்தெடுக்கப்பட்டு அவர்களுக்கும் யாக்கோபு சுதந்திர வீதம் வஸ்கங்குகிறார். காரணம் யோசேப்பு இஸ்ரவேலரை அல்லது யாக்கோபின் குடும்பத்தை பஞ்சத்தில் இருந்து காப்பாற்றியதற்கான வெகுமதியாகும் (ஆதி. 47:11–12).

Second, there is Mount Zion, a symbol of divine government (cf. Isa. 2:2-4).
Third, there is the numeral 144,000, suggestive of the heavenly complement of God’s people — no one will be missing who is supposed to be there.
Fourth, the saints are depicted as “virgins,” which descriptive emphasizes their purity (cf. 2 Cor. 11:2).
Again, though, it must be stressed that if one contends for a literal 144,000, if consistent, he should argue also that a literal Lamb was literally standing on literal Mount Zion with a group of literal men who had never been intimate with literal women, hence, were literal virgins!

Joseph and one of his two sons, Manasseh, are listed, but Ephraim, Joseph’s other son, is omitted. Thus if Dan were included, there would have been 13 tribes. The tribe omitted was usually Levi, from which the priesthood came. Inasmuch as it is normal to have only 12 and not 13 tribes, the omission of Dan is because one of the first tribes to go into idolatry (Jud. 18:30; 1 Kings 12:28-29).

Because of its unusual character, Revelation has been approached from a number of interpretive principles, some of which raise serious questions concerning its value as divine authoritative revelation.
*1. The allegorical or nonliteral approach*
This form of interpretation was offered by the Alexandrian school of theology in the third and fourth centuries. It regards the entire Bible as an extensive allegory to be interpreted in a nonliteral sense. The allegorical interpretation of the Bible was later restricted largely to prophecy about the Millennium by Augustine (354-430), who interpreted Revelation as a chronicle of the spiritual conflict between God and Satan being fulfilled in the present Church Age. A liberal variation of this in modern times considers Revelation simply as a symbolic presentation of the concept of God’s ultimate victory.
*2. The preterist approach*
A more respected approach is known as the preterist view which regards Revelation as a symbolic picture of early church conflicts which have been fulfilled. This view denies the future predictive quality of most of the Book of Revelation. In varying degrees this view combines the allegorical and symbolic interpretation with the concept that Revelation does not deal with specific future events. Still another variation of the preterist view regards Revelation as setting forth principles of divine dealings with man, without presenting specific events.
*3. The historical approach*
A popular view stemming from the Middle Ages is the historical approach which views Revelation as a symbolic picture of the total church history of the present Age between Christ’s first and second comings. This view was advanced by Luther, Isaac Newton, Elliott, and many expositors of the postmillennial school of interpretation and has attained respectability in recent centuries. Its principal problem is that seldom do two interpreters interpret a given passage as referring to the same event. Each interpreter tends to find its fulfillment in his generation. Many have combined the historical interpretation with aspects of other forms of interpretation in order to bring out a devotional or spiritual teaching from the book. The preceding methods of interpretation tend to deny a literal future Millennium and also literal future events in the Book of Revelation.
*4. The futuristic approach*
The futuristic approach has been adopted by conservative scholars, usually premillenarians, who state that chapters 4-22 deal with events that are yet future today. The content of Revelation 4-18 describes the last seven years preceding the second coming of Christ and particularly emphasizes the Great Tribulation, occurring in the last three and one-half years before His coming.
Objections to this view usually stem from theological positions opposed to premillennialism. The charge is often made that the Book of Revelation would not have been a comfort to early Christians or understood by them if it were largely futuristic. Adherents of the futuristic school of interpretation insist, on the contrary, that future events described in Revelation bring comfort and reassurance to Christians who in the nature of their faith regard their ultimate victory as future. The futuristic interpretation, however, is demanding of the expositor as it requires him to reduce to tangible prophetic events the symbolic presentations which characterize the book.
